As part of the Phenocycles project, Dr Simona Sapino, Dr Elena Peira and Flavia Turku, from the Department of Medicinal Sciences and Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Turin, visited the Institute of Horticulture – National Research Institute from 14 to 22 July.

The purpose of the visit was to exchange experiences and identify new areas of research that could be pursued within the consortium. During their stay, the guests visited the Horticultural Product Processing Centre in the Institute of Horticulture – National Research Institute, which, as part of the collaboration, could participate in scientific projects involving both polyphenol extraction and research related to the sensory analysis of jointly developed food products for special purposes and dietary supplements with a high antioxidant content.

The tools and knowledge gained through the HortiFoodTrends project can be used both to create a product that will be well received and have significant market potential, and to test that product professionally.  

The visit ended with a seminar delivered by Dr Simona Sapino and Dr Elena Peira; their lecture was entitled ‘From Nature to Nano: Smart Delivery Systems for Polyphenol-Rich Plant Extracts in PHENOCYCLES’.
